Story
It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air.... Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one. All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.

Publisher's summary
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day.
It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica.
But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history.
Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.
Sensing the McGregors and townspeople are keeping terrible secrets, Isla plans to discover the truth.
But the closer Isla comes to uncovering answers, the more the danger mounts. And with a dense cover of snow now blanketing the town, all chance of escape might already be gone.
ANNI TAYLOR lives on The Central Coast, north of Sydney, Australia, with her partner and four boys. Her thriller novels include The Game You Played, Birds in Flight and Poison Orchids.

She’ll never forget...I’ll never forgive. People always notice my daughter, Isobel. How could they not? Incredibly beautiful...until she speaks. An unsettling little-girl voice, exactly like a child’s, but from the mouth of a full-grown woman. Izzie might look grown up, but inside she’s trapped. Caught in the day it happened...the day that broke her from within. Our family fell apart that day, and we never could pick up the pieces....

Great book, would recommend
I really enjoyed this book and the reading. The storyline was well written and offered mystery to keep you trying to figure out what would happen. I would say that I never suspected the ending. The performance/reading was enjoyable and added personality. I will look for more books by the author and more narrated by the narrator.

Read this book y'all! Or listen on Audible!
I started this book on audible and followed it on Kindle. I LOVE the gal who read this book. She read each character with so much conviction, she was Isla, she was Elodie, Albany, Jessica and so on. You feel this story in your soul.
Stranger in the Woods was an absolutely amazing novel. You are captured from the very beginning and blown away by the ending. I will need this one in my home library and will recommend it to anyone who asks.! Anni Taylor did such a beautiful job with the plot and characters.

The twists in Anni’s writings are always top notch
This is yet another must listen. Holy smokes. I love great mysteries and psychological thrillers but I was not expecting that.

Worth the listen!
Wow! I’m so glad I went ahead and listened to this book! It was so twisty and unpredictable. Very much enjoyed this author and story teller.

Slow
The book was definitely slow and took a while go actually get to the good stuff but once you get there it gets good.
