Publisher's summary

The best-selling legal thriller - and CBS TV series - has charismatic defense attorney Mickey Haller taking on a slam-dunk court case involving a Beverly Hills playboy - but as it spirals into a nightmare, he finds himself in a fight for his life.

Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers - they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence, it's about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it's even about justice.

A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney's dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame.

To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal - this time to save his own life.

Good Book

This was the first book by Michael Connelly I have read. Also, I have not seen the movie of this book. I found the book difficult to get into or truly invest any attention in the beginning. As chapters went by I found myself invested and enjoying the performance. I plan to continue with the series as well as look for other books by the author. The narrator was good, but I think he is best with only one to three key charters. He seems to have a very limited range, so there were some charters I am glad had a small part. His portrayal of some charters seemed off the mark or like he was trying too hard, the performance should feel natural. My main point of contention was with the producer or editor. They saw fit to play thyme music at the beginning & ending of the chapters. Moreover, they played the music over the narration. I ask you What were they thinking ?? When you buy a book / audiobook , that's what you are buying, not a CD. You don't need / want music distracting you from the performance besides the fact the music has no reason to be there. Overall a good book that is an easy listen; there are not a great many moving parts to keep up with.

Listen to this one!

Michael Connelly is able to write prose that is readable and ?audible?. This is the best of his that I have heard. Adam Grupper does a skillful job as the reader. This is a must for Audible listeners.

Intense courtroom nover.

Michael Connelly shifts from police procedural to defense lawyer in this stunning courtroom novel. All of the elements that have made his Harry Bosch novels so good are present here. If you like Connelly (as I do) this is a great listen. I listened almost straight through.

Excellent start to the series.

I love Michael Connelly's writing. He has a way of really engaging the reader, and not letting go that I quite like. This book is one of those that just works...from the start to the finish. I always wonder when I read a book like this if the author knew what he (or she) had when they were writing it. In my opinion, this one is an instant classic. Makes we want to continue to explore the Mickey Haller character. Mr. Grupper did a fine job with the narration as well. An excellent read!

Riveting. I couldn't wait to get back to this book. The narrator was one of the best I've heard in a while and he kept my attention. One problem - I'm not sure what to follow this up with that will match up!!

Decent

I enjoyed the book and the narrator was good too. Not one of my top reads, but certainly worth the time.
