Story
When Chen’s parents are incinerated before his eyes by a blast of ball lightning, he devotes his life to cracking the secret of the mysterious natural phenomenon. His search takes him to stormy mountaintops, an experimental military weapons lab, and an old Soviet science station. The more he learns, the more he comes to realize that ball lightning is just the tip of a new frontier in particle physics. Although Chen’s quest provides a purpose for his life, his reasons for chasing his elusive quarry come into conflict with soldiers and scientists who have motives of their own.

Story
These 11 stories, including five Chinese Galaxy Award winners, are a blazingly original ode to planet Earth, its pasts, and its futures. Liu's fiction takes the listener to the edge of the universe and the end of time, to meet stranger fates than we could have ever imagined. With a melancholic and keen understanding of human nature, Liu's stories show humanity's attempts to reason, navigate, and above all, survive in a desolate cosmos.

Story
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have.

Story
In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Liu's fiction takes the listener to the edge of the universe and the end of time, to meet stranger fates than we could have ever imagined. Humanity stretched its reach beyond the familiarity of terra firma, by creating an inhabitable ring encircling the planet. As the population migration to the Ring grew, the strained resources of Earth began to ease, reverting to a healthier and more robust environment. Humans were divided into separate factions. Solid ground and natural gravity appealed to some while others favored the wonders and possibilities associated with life in space. Colonies were established on the moon and neighboring Mars. Large-scale mining operations provided materials for the expansion of the Ring and the ...

Very Average Story
I honestly don’t understand all the love for this book. It rambles and lacks a clear direction. The narrator is good, but the story is SO BORING. If you enjoy books just because everyone else seems to love it, you will be happy with this book. If you are an intelligent and independent thinker, be prepared to be disappointed.

even Rosalind Chao can't save this one
The performance is as good as it can possibly be, but the book is still a slog... too much physics (even for a former physicist like me), too little attention to plot and characters. One great scene (if you've seen the tv series you know which one). This is a case where the tv adaptation is (for me, at least) a vast improvement on the source material.

Science Fiction Through a New Set of Eyes
The story is clever and breathtaking as you understand this is the start of an ambitious trilogy. It is with a listen for the story, but also for the cultural context of a Chinese writer. It's cadences and choices are different than a Western Sci-fi story. (such as just as the action is seemingly building a head of steam, the author spends a long chapter from the Trisolaren perspective that goes into great and even numbing detail of key science concepts, derailing the action) What is perhaps most interesting is how the author never buys into and even actively undermines the concept of a hero or even a protagonist.

I’ve read this series multiple times and with the Netflix show now out, it was time for another dive. Loved this audiobook, great narration by Rosalind Chao, who btw is excellent as Ye Wenjie in the show. The 3BP trilogy is hands down my favorite SFF series of all time.

A Chore
The ideas presented were interesting, but the characters weren’t flushed out, and everything convenient happens. For instance, this is the hardest thing, only an expert can do it; the character did it the first time with no practice, amazing. There is a lot of that. Half way through, I thought I should just stop, but I pushed to the end. Get this is some free means, so you can put it down.

Fantastic Story
The Three-Body Problem is more than just a sci-fi adventure; it's a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human in a vast and unforgiving universe. It's a strong contender for one of the greatest hard science fiction trilogies of all time, and a must-read for anyone who wants to be shaken to their core and have their perspective on humanity's place in the cosmos irrevocably altered.

Oh I’m so cool I read this book and understood it
It’s a fine book. I feel like this book was made for cool guys who wanted to study physics. Everyone who I’ve talked to about this book is like “duuudddeeee it’s so good! Such a mind bend!” But, it’s really not that interesting. It’s cool and fun for sure and if you want to slog through a book, you should just read a theoretical physics book. It’s the same stuff just packaged fantasy. I hope the tv version is more interesting because this book had me predicting everything that was about to happen, and then it happened! lol
It’s a fine book for people who want to say “l understand what’s happening.” But I think the people who already understand the concepts are going to find it boring.
