Publisher's summary
In the mid-1960s, Sue Brewer’s humble living room floor was not just an after-hours clubhouse for artists looking to escape the Nashville establishment, but a creative sanctuary.
Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson. Before they were household names, these budding legends called Sue’s Nashville apartment—lovingly dubbed the “Boar’s Nest”—home. Sue’s place was an intimate staging ground where a new breed of singer-songwriters—wounded souls, wayward upstarts—would spur each other on to tap into something bigger, realer.
For Sue Brewer, the ask at each night’s guitar pull would never change: “Make me hurt.” The response would ignite a musical revolution. Brewer shaped the sound and soul of country music as we know it today, despite never picking up an instrument herself.
Enter The Boar’s Nest and discover the true, untold story of Sue Brewer and the dawn of Nashville’s outlaw country movement. Brought to life in vivid detail, this Audible Original stars Emmy-, Grammy-, and Golden Globe-nominated actress/singer Mandy Moore (This Is Us, Dr. Death, A Walk to Remember) as Sue Brewer. Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear, Girls) as the freewheeling Shel Silverstein and a full ensemble cast round out the storytelling. Richly woven with music, friendship, and Sue’s indomitable spirit, The Boar’s Nest is an extraordinary portrayal of the outlaw country movement, told in all its raw, bold, and soulful beauty. Come on in, the door’s open.

We will explore how Putin’s formative years shaped and drove him and how the supporting cast of characters he gathered along the way helped him get to the Kremlin’s inner sanctum.

This one's all heart!
Great writing and solid performances combine to give us a unique glimpse into the history of country music -- and the hearts of the poets who create it. I was genuinely touched by this story, and am glad to now know who Sue Brewer was. Recommended!

The Woman Behind the Music
The story is like a great country song. There is sad, bad, and a whole lot of glad. Sometimes getting to what's good hurts.

Outstanding Full-cast & Sound Design
Whether you are new to country music history or have a longstanding love and appreciation of musicians, performers, and songwriters like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, this production will captivate you. Outstanding performances from this dynamite cast, including Mandy Moore as Sue Brewer, make you feel privvy to history unfolding. And any production about music worth its salt will of course include the songs flowing it, like this. As Sue Brewer is quoted as saying, "Make me feel" (or some variation), which this Audible Original most definitely does.

Way to go!
The only drawback on this story is that it stopped... I so wanted to hear more and fill in those parts between then and now.

Loved it!
I’m a big fan of outlaw country and was familiar with Sue from reading the biographies of many of the characters in this book. It was really well done and a joy to listen to.

Outlaws and Troubadours and Sue
This was a fantastic story that will transport you to a point in time when America was a little simpler. It’ll let you hear and FEEL what it was like for those outlaws and troubadours full of hopes and dreams and angst and fears and self doubt. It’ll make you wish you could have been a fly on the wall and will make you miss something you’ve never had. It’s a sad tale. It’ll break your heart…in the best way possible.

Great Story
If you are a fan of Outlaw Country Music this is a must listen. I'm not a fan of this style of audiobooks. But because of the title and being a Duke's of Hazard fan as a kid the title jumped out at me. I started listening and seen that it was in the play style format and thought oh no. But after listening to the 1st 5 min I was going to listen to the whole thing before I turned it off. One of the greatest audiobooks that sucked me in and would not let go tell the end credits rolled. I'm hopping there is more to follow.

What a Great Story
The history lesson was clear and astonishing! I was a child at the time, and hearing accounts from those songwriters explained so much. The cast took their roles seriously, thus a fabulous performance. Thank you for the adventure!

Great story and well done!
I loved the back stories of Shel Silverstein and Kris Kristofferson whose careers were so diverse and celebrated across a number of genres. And the Sue Brewer story and her impact on these artists was fascinating.
